Update - A Special Notice from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School

— A Special Notice from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School:

BH-BL High school is taking preventive measures in response to death of Queensbury football player.

On Wednesday, Aug. 29, the BH-BL High School learned that a member of the Queensbury High School varsity football team passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 28 from a sudden and serious infection. The student played in a scrimmage at BH-BL on Saturday, August 25. The exact cause of the boy's infection is not yet known.

BH-BL is following the advice of its school physician and of the Saratoga County Health Department and recommending that its varsity and junior varsity football players who attended Saturday's scrimmage receive a single dose of antibiotic as a preventive measure. High School principal Maryellen Symer is addressing the teams today and distributing a letter with more details to them.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake expresses its deep sadness and support for the entire Queensbury community at this difficult time.

UPDATE - Jeffrey Hammond, a spokesperson for the New York State Department of Health said it may still be too early for the lead agency (Warren County Health Department) in the investigation into what killed the student, to determine what is responsible for his death.

An inquiry to the Warren County Health Department has not been returned as of Thursday morning, but a statement on http://www.queensburyschool.org reads, "Based on symptoms, it is suspected that the infection may have been bacterial meningitis, although this has not been confirmed."
