Swimming: Shen dominates Niskayuna in opener

Ballston Spa, Bethlehem also post league wins

Shenendehowa swept the individual races to defeat Niskayuna 123-61 in Tuesday's Suburban Council boys swimming season opener.

Nick Hooper (200- and 500-yard freestyles), Eric Tsui (50 freestyle, 100 butterfly), Ryan Gordon (200 individual medley, 100 backstroke) and Luke Gordon (100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke) all had two wins for the Plainsmen. Adam Bonk added a victory in the 1-meter diving competition.

Niskayuna’s lone win came in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Ballston Spa defeated Mohonasen/Schalmont 100-80, Bethlehem upended Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 94-73 and Saratoga beat Guilderville 95-88.

Chris Vesic led Ballston Spa with wins in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles. Aaron Soden (diving), Jesse Haraden (500 freestyle), Anthony Bennice (100 backstroke) and Nick Pascucci (100 breaststroke) also won individual events.

Vincent Fernandez (200-yard freestyle), Joe Conway (200 individual medley) and Jake Hewitt (100 butterfly) had victories for Mohonasen/Schalmont.

Gunnar Zemering paced Bethlehem with wins in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles. Alex Taber (200 freestyle), Kevin Flynn (100 butterfly), Connor Doyle (100 backstroke) and Matt He (100 breaststroke) also had individual wins for the Eagles.

Brandon Beaudoin had wins in the 200-yard individual medley and the 500 freestyle for BH-BL.

In Voorheesville, Greg Kelly paced Saratoga Springs with wins in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Sam Stadnyk (diving), Alex Danielson (100 freestyle) and Ethan McAuliffe (100 breaststroke) also won races for the Blue Streaks.

Reid Zyniecki posted wins in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles for Guilderville. Jeremy Collison contributed a victory in the 200 individual medley.

In a non-league meet, Shaker outdistanced Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk 119-59. The Blue Bison won 10 of the 11 events and had eight individual winners -- Joshua Kullman (200-yard freestyle), Nicholas Buff (200 individual medley), Mark Enright (50 freestyle), Brian Nolte (100 butterfly), Nikos Moisidis (100 freestyle), Andrew Semmes (500 freestyle), Timothy Buff (100 backstroke) and William Matz (100 breaststroke).
