Election night dispatches

9:15 p.m.----

With polls closed, reporter Marcy Velte (@velte_spotlight) reports both Democratic Bethlehem Town Board candidate Bill Reinhardt and Supervisor John Clarkson are both at a Dem party at Swifty's in Delmar.

At the same time, Zam Strumfeld (@zan_spotlight) has spotted Albany County District Attorney David Soares at a Democrat event at the Polish American Citizens Club. Soares has no competition tonight after handily defeating challenger Lee Kindlon in a September primary.

9:45 p.m.-----

David Soares tells Strumfeld "this is gonna be a great night for Democrats." Colonie Supervisor Paula Mahan has also arrived at the party. Two Town Board seats up in Colonie.

9:50 p.m.-----

Velte reports Bethlehem Republicans are passing the time waiting for election results at My Place and Co. by taking part in trivia night... and winning.

10:05 p.m.

Reporter John Purcell (@johnp_spotlight) reports from Schenectady County Democratic HQ at the Hiberians a lack of food is becoming talked about, as number trickle in.

Strumfeld reports Phil Steck is in the house at the Polish American Citizens Club.

10:40 p.m.-----

Phil Steck has declared victory and is thanking his supporters. Strumfeld reports he thanks Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver for his support--Steck's opponent, Jennifer Whalen, made Silver's troubles regarding the Vito Lopez scandal a major talking point in her campaign.

Also, with all of Colonie's votes counted, it looks like Dems Brian Haak and David Rowley will hold on to their appointed Colonie Town Board seats.

10:50 p.m.----

Purcell reports Madelyn Thorne has conceded to Hugh Farley in the 49th Senate District race, says results are "something she can live with."

In Bethlehem, Jeremy Maretelle has conceded to Democrat Bill Reinhardt in the Bethlehem Town Board race. Martelle, after his second board bid, tells Velte he ran a strong campaign and would consider running next year in the regular-year election.

Further north, the first votes reported on a proposition to take Saratoga Springs into a city manager form of government shows a good margin of disapproval. This is not the first time the issue has been before voters.

11:30 p.m.----

Things have wrapped up in most local races and even the big contest... Barack Obama is being project as the winner of the presidential race. A few races are still outstanding, including the Senate contest between George Amedore and Cecelia Tkzczyk.
