In Ballston Spa, homecoming isn't just for high schoolers and it's more than purple and gold face paint, dances and football--it's a community event.
The school district's annual "Homecoming Week" kicks off on Monday, Oct. 10, when local businesses will relinquish their storefront windows to teams or clubs who leave their mark with posters, glitter, streamers, balloons or anything else that screams "school spirit."
When school resumes on Tuesday (Monday is Columbus Day!), four days of "themes" begins. Tuesday is purple and gold day, Wednesday is a class color shirt day competition, Thursday is sports team shirts and Friday is class t-shirts.
It's all about alumni on Wednesday, Oct. 12, when the 2nd Alumni Recognition Event is held at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. A dessert reception will immediately follow at 7 p.m. in the library.
Before the football game on Friday, Oct. 14, a Community Spirit Parade will step off at the former South Street School at 5:30 p.m. and march through the village, ending at the football field where the annual Homecoming Football Game will pit Ballston Spa against CBA at 7 p.m.
The next night, Saturday, Oct. 15, the week will conclude with the Homecoming Dance at the high school.
